It is comfortable, safe and welcoming and is one of the region’s most rewarding destinations. Join our Byroads Jordan tour and discover the highlights of this Middle Eastern kingdom.
Although largely desert, Jordan has lush farming lands, dramatic mountains and beautiful beaches. Crusader castles and ancient churches dot the countryside. There are the enduring sites of Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea and the jewel in the crown of the country’s many antiquities, wonderful Petra. The ancient Nabataean city has been carved into the pink sandstone cliffs in Jordan’s southwestern desert.
Our 8 day adventure in the kingdom begins in Amman. It includes such highlights as the ancient city of Jerash, inhabited for more than 6500 years, a visit to the Dead Sea and the beach at Aqaba on the Red Sea. The spectacular desertscape of magnificent Wadi Rum is our next stop. Here we spend the night in a luxurious Bedouin style encampment. We climb sand dunes, take a jeep safari and enjoy a camel ride at sunset.
We then arrive at the ancient Nabataean site of Petra, one of the most celebrated sites in the region. Finally en route back to Amman we visit the imposing Shobak Crusader castle and take a stroll through the ancient villages of Dana and Madaba.
